Not so fast...

So ladies and gents...I previously posted on Joss and Main and wanted to add a helpful review of my experience for anyone who may use the website in the future.

the positive: we got our chandelier and it looks amazing. Here is a picture of the chandelier on the store's website.

the negative:
1) the color of the shade isn't 100% what I thought it would be.  a little more gold actually.
2) there are no returns, so you are blindly buying expensive products and hoping the pictures and descriptions on their website are correct.
3) i've found at LEAST 5 items on Joss and Main that are actually cheaper online directly on the retailer's website....most coming from Overstock.com's website.


For example: Maggie Pillowtop Bench on Joss and Main is advertised to typically cost $658, but is on sale for $349 online (plus shipping and tax).

However, I found the same bench for $293 with tax and shipping included on Overstock.com.

While it's great to shop these discount stores, be careful...very careful.

Chair Change

So this past summer I bought a beautiful french style chair at the Bountiful Barn in Glen Ellyn with the intentions of reupholstering it.  I wanted a big enough chair to sit next to our leather wing back chair in the living room.  Here is a link to the pics I posted back in June.

I've had a hard time finding the right fabric for the chair so it's been something on my lingering "to-do" list over the last few months.

Well, recently I saw this Restoration Hardware look-alike chair at the TJ Maxx/Home Goods near our house that I knew would go perfectly in this room.  There was a small stain on the cushion and they were so generous to take 25% off the list price.  I flipped the cushion over and wha-la...I can't even see it.

I think it fits perfect with the neutral room and am happy to have this room 100% done!

In the coming weeks we'll be working on our master bedroom, and my idea was to reupholster the french chair and use it in our new master.  We'll see how long it takes me to get it upholstered!

In the small things...

Why hello!

Over the last year or so we've been so focused on big projects in our house, that we haven't had much time (or energy) to focus on small decorative items for our house.  So this weekend while Eric worked on things at the house, I took a trip to a favorite store of mine....the Restoration Hardware Outlet.

My main goal was to buy accessories for the half bath we're renovating now.  I was able to find a mirror, double sconce, and glass wall shelf that look great together.

I also got a new fireplace screen (the huge old brass one was SO outdated) and a venetian mirror.  Everything I got was about 60% off :)

And here is our new one.  So plain, which was exactly what the room needed...less bling.

In two weeks we'll have crown molding and new lighting up in the family room too!

Also, here is a picture of the Venetian Mirror.  I haven't decided where it will go, but I was thinking it would be nice in the foyer or as the mirror in our master bathroom.  Choices, choices...

Stores in the Area

We've been really busy the last few weeks with projects at the house, so today I thought I'd just post something quick about where we've been shopping in the area!

We recently got our fireplace installed and started painting the kitchen cabinets. After this weekend I'll have some "in progress" pictures to share.

1) The paint store. We love the quality of Benjamin Moore paint and the people here are so so helpful- http://jclicht.com/



2) Calico Corners- The best store for inspiration! We haven't gotten anything here yet, but their selection of furniture and fabrics have given us a lot of ideas.

They have hundreds of fabrics 30 to 60% below designer showroom prices every day. You can shop types of fabrics by prints, by patterns such as floral, geometric, plaid, toile, stripes or solids, etc.. The fabric is reasonable, but most everything else is over-priced.

3) Last but certainly not least.....Home Goods! The Home Goods in Westchester and also in Lemont are the two stores we frequent the most. We recently bought a couch here discounted from $1400 to $350. Now that's a deal.
