Inspired Sweets

I've always wanted to learn how to make beautiful cakes.  Well, maybe not always, but at least for the last few years.

I was inspired to make a tiered cake tonight since I recently received a beautiful cake stand from Shirley AND because I signed up to take a cake decorating class in two weeks (and I wanted to test my skills before class began).

We're going to dinner with friends tomorrow and I was assigned dessert.  Hope it tastes okay.....

My new cake stand...so pretty :)

Hummingbird Cake
Recipe from Paula Dean (how bad can it be, right?)

Layer #1- I cut the top of the tier off to help each tier lay flat on top of each other.  I also put parchment paper around the base of the cake stand to keep it clean.

Added some icing before putting on tier #2

And BAM, here's the complete 3 tier cake!  I'm just pleased nothing went really wrong.

This little cake project excites me for my adventures to come in cake decorating!  Now only if there were more hours in the day....

Thanks for stopping by,
Courtney
